Washington & Jefferson Bashes Battling Bishops

Senior midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus/Wellington) and sophomore midfielder Meredith Wholley (Brentwood, Tenn.) scored goals for Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference loss to Washington & Jefferson on Friday at Selby Field.

The Presidents took a 10-0 halftime lead, getting 6 goals from Brittany Fradkin and 2 from Liz Turcik during the period. W&J extended its lead to 12-0 with scores by Lauren Novak and Courtney Schrock early in the second half.

Mavian and Wholley tallied consecutive goals early in the second half to put the Bishops on the scoreboard.

Junior Lauren Figy (Westfield, Mass.) was credited with 12 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.

Fradkin finished with a game-high 7 goals, while Schrock added 4 goals. Julia McLellan and Amber Kuntz combined for 14 saves in the President crease.

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Sophomore Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG) scored a career-high seven goals and classmate Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) stopped 13 shots as Washington & Jefferson routed Ohio Wesleyan 17-2 in action Friday night.

The Presidents (10-2) won their third consecutive match and produced a double-digit win total for the second-straight season.

W&J scored the first 12 goals of the match, including six by Fradkin. The Presidents led 10-0 at the break. OWU (3-11) finally ended its scoring drought with 23:25 remaining with back-to-back goals, but W&J closed the game with five consecutive goals.

Senior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) finished with four goals for W&J, while juniors Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) both added two scores.

Junior Brittney Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) posted one goal and one assist, while sophomore Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) scored the only other Presidents' goal.

McLellan stopped 13 of the 15 shots that she faced in 49 minutes of action. W&J outshot the Battling Bishops by a 42-24 margin. The Presidents also scored on 4 of 9 free position shots.

Washington & Jefferson returns to action on Tuesday when traveling to Granville, Ohio, for a 7:00 pm match at Denison.
