Widener Explodes in Q2 to Run Away from LVC

CHESTER, Pa. - A seven-goal second quarter from Widener blew apart a one-goal game, and the Pride piled it on after that to win 19-7 in MAC play on Saturday.

In cold and rainy conditions, the Dutchmen (5-8, 3-5 MAC) couldn't kickstart their offense against the conference-leading Pride (9-2, 7-0 MAC) as Widener ripped off 46 shots and scored four times on the advantage.

LVC had two goals from Alex Beard, and Malik Pedroso scored once with three assists. Andrew Kruter, Jordan Mayr, Ryan Leonard, and Ryan Lanigan also scored for LVC. The Pride had fourteen different goal scorers, led by Whitney Bruemmer's three and Josh Fox's five assists.

After spotting Widener an early 4-0 lead, LVC came back with a late first-quarter goal by Pedroso, and Leonard and Beard both scored man-up to start the second quarter and cut the lead to 4-3.

The momentum didn't last long, however, as Widener embarked on a 7-0 run to take an 11-3 lead before the half. Things didn't get better in the second half as Widener outscored LVC 8-3, including 3-0 in the fourth quarter, on the way to the 19-7 win.

Bryan Lockward made five saves in the first half to take the loss; Mike Moll stopped three in relief. Widener combined three goalies, with Bobby Schluter picking up the win with two saves in the first half.

Widener outshot LVC 46-30 and controlled face-offs 17-10.

LVC visits MEssiah on Thursday.
