Merrimack Drops Close Battle to No. 2 Le Moyne
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The 10th-ranked Merrimack men's lacrosse team led 4-2 at halftime, but Matt Chadderdon scored twice in 47 seconds down the stretch to give #2 Le Moyne the 6-4 Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
With the game tied at four, Chadderdon notched his first of two unassisted tallies with 4:09 remaining to give the Dolphins their first lead since the first period. Chadderdon then made it a two-goal lead with 3:16 left, putting the game away.
Turnovers doomed Merrimack in the second half, as the hosts committed 19 in the game, mostly off offensive pass sequences. The Warriors had their man-advantage chances, including a 30-second advantage with 5:19 left, but it did not result in a shot.
Merrimack trailed 2-1 midway through the first but scored three unanswered goals to close the half with a 4-2 lead behind two goals and an assist from Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) and a goal each from Terence Barclay (Babylon, NY) and Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY).
Le Moyne outshot the Warriors 19-11, but Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) stopped five first-half shots, while Merrimack's defense emerged with numerous blocks off point-blank Dolphin opportunities.
After Vinnie Alexander notched Le Moyne's first goal since the first quarter at the 7:42 mark of the third, Jack Venditti tied it at four just 18-seconds into the fourth.
Reagan finished with nine stops, including numerous point-blank saves, featuring a stop on Chadderdon as the third quarter expired. Merrimack was otushot 35-17 in the game and managed just nine shots in the final three periods.
Merrimack (7-4, 4-3 NE-10) will host cross town rival Bentley University in a big game Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Warrior Field. The Warriors will honor its four-member Class of 2011 before the game as part of Senior Day.

Merrimack got on the scoreboard first as Corey Lunney followed a save by sophomore goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) by finding the back of the net for his 22nd goal of the season at the 7:03 mark.
The Dolphins tied the score at one just 24 seconds later as senior attackman Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) tallied his 17th goal of the year. Following back-and-forth play over the next three minutes, redshirt junior midfielder Nick Blumer (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Hobart) posted his third goal of the season to give the Dolphins the lead.
The Warriors evened the score at two apiece with 2:02 left in the first quarter as Lunney fed Terence Barclay for his 23rd marker of the campaign. Merrimack regained the lead 1:18 into the second quarter on Mike Perdie's fifth goal of the year. Following six scoreless minutes, Lunney extended his team's lead to two with an unassisted tally.
