Bostin University Edged by No. 10 Albany

BOSTON - Senior Rachel Collins tied the game in the final minute, but the Boston University lacrosse team was edged by No. 7/10 Albany, 12-11, at Nickerson Field on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Terriers fell to 6-7 (2-2 AE).

Collins tallied the equalizer with 58 seconds left on the clock, but Albany's Ariana Parker scored a free-position goal with 11 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Junior Hannah Frey, who was named America East Player of the Game, tallied a career-high six goals, while senior Erica Baumgartner (2a) and sophomore Danielle Etrasco (3g, 1a) also collected multi-point games. Freshman goalkeeper Christina Sheridan turned aside one shot, and Albany's Anna Berman made four saves.

The Terriers edged Albany, 13-12, in draw controls, but the Great Danes held a 16-10 advantage in ground balls as they improved to 12-0 (4-0 AE). BU was 8 for 10 on clears and 1 for 1 on free-position shots, while Albany finished 11 for 13 and 2 for 6, respectively.

The teams exchanged goals in the game's first two minutes, as Frey scored off a feed from Baumgartner and Albany's Jodi Battaglia answered with an unassisted tally. With 18:53 left in the first half, Etrasco assisted on Frey's second of the game and, 28 seconds later, Frey connected on a free-position shot to give BU a 3-1 lead.

The Terriers and Great Danes exchanged the next five goals to close out the half. Allie Phelan made it a one-goal game with 17:33 left, but Etrasco extended the BU lead with a goal from Baumgartner. Albany's Nikki Branchini scored with 3:58 remaining in the half before Frey responded 35 seconds later to give BU a 5-3 lead. Taylor Frink then tallied for the Great Danes with two seconds left in the stanza.

Albany opened the final frame on a 4-0 run as it took an 8-5 advantage. Parker tallied on a free-position shot just 55 seconds into the half, and Rachael Burek connected on Frink's pass less than two minutes later. Parker then netted two markers to give the Great Danes the three-goal lead.

The Terriers responded with four goals in a 3:45 span to retake the lead. Etrasco tallied with 18:13 left on the clock before Frey scored twice to even the game, 8-8. With 14:28 left in the game, junior Molly Swain registered a goal to give the Terriers a 9-8 advantage.

Albany answered with two goals to grab a 10-9 lead. Parker scored with 10:07 left, and Battaglia tallied 1:11 later. After Etrasco evened the game for BU with 7:49 left in the game, the Great Danes took an 11-10 lead with Battaglia's marker with 7:14 on the clock.

With time winding down, freshman Elizabeth Morse, who was stationed behind the net, fed Collins in front, where she quickly fired the tying goal with 58 seconds remaining.

After drawing a foul, Parker connected on the free-position shot with 11 seconds left to account for Albany's 12-11 victory.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (April 20) when they play in their regular-season home finale against Harvard. Game time is set at 7:00 p.m.
