Rowan Survives Weather, Scranton for Victory

SCRANTON, Pa. - Neither wind nor rain could keep Rowan from its appointed rounds Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field. The Profs, now 7-5, survived high winds and pounding rain to pull out a 9-6 victory over Scranton in a game called with 5:23 remaining. The game was delay five times due to lightning detected in the local area.

Freshman Vicky Sucharski (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) led Rowan with three goals, including two in the final four minutes of play after the Royals cut a 7-4 halftime deficit down to one.

The Profs also received two goals fom sophomore attacker Caitlin Ravel (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), a goal and two assist from senior midfielder Alli Dickey (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island), a goal and an assist from senior Trish Harrington (Mahwah, N.J./Suffern {NY}) and junior midfielder Michelle Lubrano (Delanco, N.J./Holy Cross), and a goal from freshman defender Lauren Callaghan (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley).

Scranton, which had a season-long nine-game winning streak snapped to fall to 9-3, received two goals apiece from first-year attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) and senior defender Katie Slade (Buckingham, Pa./Central Bucks East), a goal and three assists from senior Caroline Pryor (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame), and a goal from sophomore attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks East).

The team traded goals throughout the first 18 minutes of the first half before the Profs rallied with four straight goals-one each by Harrington, Callaghan, Lubrano, and Ravel-to open up a three-goal lead by intermission. Early in the second half, Slade and Pryor scored within a five-minute span to make it a one-goal game before Sucharski's late-game heroics sealed it for the Profs.

Each goalie-Rowan freshman Lindsay Barrie (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and Scranton sophomore Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood)-were credited with eight saves apiece.

The Royals will play their final home game of the 2011 season this Thursday, April 21, against Drew University in Landmark Conference action beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
