Tippett, Carta Lead Shepherd Past Tiffin

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. Sophomore attack/midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) had seven goals and an assist, while freshman attack/midfielder Shannon Carta (Davidsonville, MD/South River) added six goals and four assists to lead Shepherd to a 24-15 win over Tiffin in action at Ram Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) recorded five goals and three assists, while junior attack/midfielder Kaitlin Drake (Ellicott City,MD/River Hill) tallied three goals.

Senior midfielder Carly Jones (Hagerstown, MDSmithsburg), junior attack/midfielder Cara Parks (Westminster, MD/ Westminster), and freshman attack/midfielder Taylor Smith (Lutherville, MD/Mercy) each had a goal for the Rams.

Sophomore attack Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) notched three assists, while freshman attack Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, MD/Westminster) and freshman attack/midfielder Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana).

Tippett and Carta each had three first half goals to give the Rams a 9-6 lead at the break.

The Rams scored eight unanswered goals midway through the second half to pull away for the win. Tippett had three goals during the run.

Alexandria Quast had six goals and two assists and Elyse Braun had three goals and an assist to lead the Dragons.

Freshman Emily Melanson (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had six saves in goal for the Rams. Madeline Kane had 12 saves for Tiffin.

Shepherd had a 45-25 advantage in shots, a 23-17 edge in draw controls, and a 31-21 advantage in ground balls.

Shepherd completes the 2011 season with an 8-7 mark, while Tiffin falls to 7-8.
