Hartwick Falls in E8 Action to St. John Fisher

ONEONTA, NY Hartwick battled nationally 24th-ranked St. John Fisher through 47 minutes, but the visiting Cardinals outscored the Hawks 7-1 over the final 12 and a half minutes for a 21-11 win. 'Wick slips to 5-7 overall and 1-6 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals are now 8-5 and 3-3.

The Hawks pulled to within three goals of the favored Cardinals three times in the second half of action. With 14:52 remaining, Hannah Kennedy's (Avon, CT/Avon) third goal of the game made it 14-10 Fisher. The Cardinals, however, netted seven straight goals in a 10-minute span to pull away.

Freshman Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) led Hartwick offensively with four goals and two assists. Kennedy dished out an assist to go along with her three scores, and Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point), Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles), Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) and defender Lindsay Zweigenhaft (Islip, NY/Islip) each tallied for the Hawks.

After 'Wick started the day off with a bang with McGovern scoring 22 seconds into the contest, Fisher notched the next four goals of the game over the next five minutes for a 4-1 edge.

Kennedy trimmed the lead to one with a pair of unassisted tallies 26 seconds apart. Fisher came back with just over 17 minutes left in the half, but McCabe answered 4:02 later to make it 5-4. That would be as close as Hartwick would get, though, as Fisher tacked on three more goals before halftime, including the last two with less than 68 seconds left, for an 8-4 lead after 30 minutes.

McCabe scored three times with Doyle adding a goal in the first eight and a half minutes of the second half as the Hawks outscored the Cardinals, 4-3. Later in the half, LaVaute made it a three-goal game, 12-9, with just over 18 minutes remaining, but Fisher would score nine of the game's next 10 goals over the next 15 minutes.

Zweigenhaft's end-to-end effort completed the day's scoring with just over 12 seconds left. It marked her first career tally in a Hartwick uniform.

Fisher doubled up 'Wick in shots 44-22. The cardinals edged out the Hawks in ground balls, 21-18, and won 24 of 34 draws.

Hartwick senior goalie Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) grabbed a game-high six ground balls in the game. She also tied for a team-high with four caused turnovers and made 13 saves. Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) secured three draws for Hartwick. She also caused two Fisher turnovers as did Zweigenhaft and defender Morgan Galipeau (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony).

Mary Stimson scored six times for St. John Fisher. Meg Merriam added five scores, and Jackie Maynard tallied three times and dished four assists.

Today marked the final home regular season home game for seniors Kaye, and defenders Bianca Gianfrate (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) and Jess Kenna (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd). Hartwick honored the senior trio in a pre-game ceremony.

Hartwick closes the Empire 8 regular season next Friday, April 22 at RIT. The following day, the Hawks travel to Wells College in a rescheduled game from mid-March.
