Lambert Leads Charge as Gophers Down Griffins
GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Goucher got off more than 40 shots for just the second time this season on the way to a 17-12 triumph over Gwynedd Mercy this afternoon.
Mary Lambert (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) contributed a season-high six goals to the victory, including one with :02 showing on the clock that provided the Gophers (7-6) with an 8-5 advantage at halftime.
The two teams were never separated by more than three goals until Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) tallied an unassisted goal 10:23 into the second half to put Goucher up 10-6. The Griffins (8-6) were able to close to within 12-10 midway through the period on an unassisted goal by Morgan Hosler, but starting with another unassisted goal by Reifsnyder, the Gophers tallied five consecutive goals to assume a 17-10 lead with 2:31 left to play.
Reifsnyder and Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) furnished the Gophers with three goals apiece, while Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School) and Andi Lipson (Langhorne, Pa./George School) each chipped in with a pair of goals. Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) had one goal to go along with three assists.
Colleen Dellostretto stuck four goals for Gwynedd Mercy.
The Gophers, who halted a four-game losing streak by winning for the first time they pinned a 19-8 setback on Occidental back on March 18, finished with a 41-31 edge in shots.
