No. 1 Adelphi Shuts Down Southern Connecticut

New Haven, CT - Adelphi continued its Northeast-10 schedule on Wednesday, when they traveled to to take on Southern Connecticut. The Panthers led 10-1 just 10 minutes into the action and rolled to a 24-2 victory. With the win Adelphi remains unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 9-0 in the NE-10, while SCSU falls to 0-12 and 0-10 in conference play.

Claire Petersen led 12 Panthers in the point column with a game high eight points, all on assists, while Devan Crimi had six, courtesy of five goals and one helper. Demmianne Cook netted four goals and Elizabeth Fey (2G, 1A), Kaitlyn Carter (3G) and Erica Devito (3G) all chipped in three points.

On defense, Cook, Crimi, Tara Gangarossa and Jacqueline Williams all caused two turnovers, while Kristin Jones had three ground balls and one caused turnover. Williams also won four draws and Carter and Marissa Mills had two each. Frankie Caridi made three saves and allowed one goal in net, picking up her 12th win of the season, while Jennifer Rojas logged 15 minutes of action between the pipes.

Adelphi opened the contest with a 7-0 run over the first 6:48 as six different Panthers found the back of the net, Crimi doing so twice. The Owls fought back, scoring at the 23:12 mark, but back-to-back tallies from Cook, sparked a 13-0 Adelphi run that gave the Panthers a 20-1 lead at the half on the way to a 24-2 victory.

The Panthers were tops in every statistical category, including shots, 39-5, ground balls, 24-7 and draw controls, 17-11.

Play resumes for Adelphi on Friday, April 22 when they travel across Long Island for a 4:00 pm meeting with #8 C.W. Post in Brookville, New York.
