Hartwick Drops Road Contest at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY Hartwick women's lacrosse lost on the road on Friday at Rochester Institute of Technology by a final count of 16-7. The Hawks fall to 5-8 on the year.

Junior Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland) paced Hartwick with two goals. Freshman Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) added a goal and an assist. Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon), Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/S. Brunswick), Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point), and Kate O'Shea (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) also found the net for the Hawks.

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after 3:29 elapsed in the first half. Sisco and McCabe then tallied for two of the next three goals as the Hawks cut the lead to 4-2 with 14:18 left in the half.

RIT came back with three goals in the next eight minutes, but Kennedy tallied with four and a half minutes left to cut the deficit to four, 7-3. The Tigers added another goal with less than three minutes to play and it appeared 'Wick would make it into halftime with just a five-goal deficit. The Tigers, however, added two more goals in the final 10 seconds of the half to increase the margin to seven.

After three straight tallies in the second frame, Walsh netted back-to-back goals for the Hawks 57 seconds apart. The Tigers scored their final three goals of the day in a three-minute span. O'Shea tallied for the second time this season with less than five minutes remaining and McGovern scored her 10th of the year to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) led Hartwick with five ground balls in the contest. McCabe and goalie Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) each registered three. Kaye caused a game-high three Tiger turnovers. She also registered 11 saves giving her 427 for her career, moving her past Amanda Gerich (2003-06) into fourth place on the all-time Hartwick save list.

Morgan Galipeau (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) and Scicchitano also caused a pair of RIT turnovers in the game.

RIT was led by Shelby Vakiener's five goals. She also had a game-high five draws. Megan Henriksen added four goals and a game-best six ground balls. Katelyn Crane made 13 saves in the RIT cage.

Hartwick plays tomorrow at Wells College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
