Foothill Upsets San Ramon Valley in California Action

After falling to San Ramon Valley in overtime back on March 22, junior midfielder Colin Kacinski and the Foothill boys' lacrosse team knew they could compete against one of the state's top programs. In Friday's rematch contest, Kacinski and company also proved they could beat them.

Thanks to an improbable late-game rally that included a six-goal fourth quarter, the Falcons upended the Wolves, 10-8, to notch their third win in a row. Kacinski scored a game-high six goals for the Falcons and played a key role in the second half charge. Patrick Worstell and Michael Tagliaferri each scored three goals for San Ramon Valley.

San Ramon Valley appeared to be in control at intermission, building a 5-2 lead behind a solid defensive performance and well-rounded offense. However, the Falcons kept within striking distance in the second half before embarking on their offensive assault in the final stanza.

After a 2-3 start to the season, Foothill is now 8-6 overall and has shown the ability to play well against some of the best teams in California. The Falcons have lost to state elites Bellarmine Prep, Saint Ignatius Prep and De LaSalle by a combined nine goals. Friday's victory also puts the squad into a second place tie with San Ramon Valley in the East Bay Athletic League standings. De LaSalle currently sits atop the standings at 8-0 in league play. Foothill and De LaSalle are set to clash one more time on May 6.
