Roanoke Runs by Sweet Briar in Regular Season Finale

SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke won its regular season finale, 22-7, over Sweet Briar on Monday evening. The Maroons enter the post-season with a 10-7 overall mark and finished 7-2 in the ODAC. The Vixens are now 3-9-1, 1-6 in the conference.

The Maroons out-shot SBC, 49-20, held a commanding 35-13 advantage in groundballs and won 19 of 31 draw controls on the evening. RC was 11 of 15 in clear attempts while holding the Vixens to a mere 5 for 20 in that category.

Gina Valles led all scorers with 12 points, including seven goals and five assists. Her 398 career points now rank her third on the NCAA Div. III all-time scoring list. She also collected six groundballs to become the school's all-time leader in that category.

In addition, the senior captain broke the school's single-season scoring total (112pts), topping her own record of 105 from last spring. Her 46 assists on the year broke the 21-year old single-season record which was previously held by Mary Brown '90.

Meegan Rourke totaled four goals, three assists, four groundballs and won eight draw controls which makes her fourth all-time with 113. Hope Hartley had a strong night as the freshman caused four turnovers and collected six groundballs on the defensive end.

Kathleen Wager had three goals and two assists while Carolyn Miller added two goals and two assists of her own for the Maroons. Jamie Golden found the back of the net on three occasions as Allison Bonnano contributed a goal and two assists.

Sam Schwartz led SBC with two goals and an assists while Stewart Hulfish added two goals. Sarah Winstead had a goal and an assist for the Vixens.

Laura Zdziarski (5-2) finished with seven saves in goal for the Maroons, as Cristina Scichilone had three second-half saves in relief.

Roanoke, which is riding a three-game winning-streak, earned a #3 seed in the ODAC Tournament and will host the conference quarterfinals. The Maroons will face-off against #6 seed Randolph-Macon on Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
