W&J Routs Oberlin in Teams' Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON, Pa. Seven different Presidents scored in the first half as Washington & Jefferson College breezed to a 19-2 women's lacrosse victory over Oberlin College in the regular-season finale for both squads on Tuesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (12-3) will now await word on a postseason bid to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament. Last year, W&J finished as the runner-up in the four-team ECAC Tournament.

W&J raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first 15 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG) scored twice during the early spurt and finished with five goals (four in the first half). A total of ten Presidents scored during the win.

Junior midfielder Brittney Oake (Belle Meade, N.J./Montgomery Prep) and senior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) both added three goals, while junior midfielder Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) notched two. Schrock's final tally was the 195th of her career and Oake recorded two assists.

Turcik also dished out two assists, while freshman midfielder Amy Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) scored one goal and supplied a pair of assists. Junior defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) picked up seven draw controls.

Seniors Nikki Lu (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Shannon Wagner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also scored for the Presidents, while classmate Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) played 27 minutes in goal to earn the win. All four seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony as they played perhaps their final match at Alexandre Stadium. The quartet was a part of the first recruiting class for W&J women's lacrosse and has now won 36 matches over four years.

W&J held a 44-5 shot advantage and has now defeated Oberlin three consecutive times.

The ECAC Tournament brackets are expected to be released on May 9.
