MSV Season Ends with Skyline Tournament Loss at Kean

Union, N.J. For the second straight season the College of Mount Saint Vincent had its season ended in the Skyline Conference tournament at Kean after falling to the Cougars 21-16 on Tuesday night. Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) each netted five goals for the Dolphins.

After falling behind 3-1, Mount Saint Vincent tallied four straight to pull in front 5-4 with 14:14 left in the first half. Kean answered that run with four of their own to pull in front 7-5 and gain a lead it would not let up. After Mitchell broke up the run, Kean went on to score three of the final five goals of the half to take a 10-7 advantage into the intermission.

Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal at 29:23, but the Cougars used a pair of four goal scoring runs to pull in front 18-9 with 14:34 left in regulation time.

Mount Saint Vincent made one last run in the tilt after scoring five straight in the late stages of the half to get to within 19-16 after an Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) marker with just over three minutes left in the contest. Kean closed out the win with two goals in the final half minute to advance to the semifinal round on Thursday.

Kean was led on the night by 11 goals and 12 points from Amanda South. In two games against the Mount this season South has registered 14 goals and 17 points for the Cougars. She also picked up two groundballs in the game and caused a pair of turnovers.

Lyndsay Cannon added five goals and seven points for Kean, while Joelle Vitale won five draw controls. Samantha Ciccone paced Kean in groundballs with four in the contest.

Mitchell added a team-high six draw controls to her five goals in the contest and also picked up three groundballs and caused a turnover. Perla finished the game 4 for 5 in free position shots and rounded out a strong all-around game with three groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.), Flores and Woerner each tallied twice for the Dolphins with Woerner picking up the team's only assist. Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) led the team with four groundballs.

Kean used a pair of net minders on Tuesday with Ashlie Berghold playing the bulk of the time and making six saves. Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) was saddled with loss after making seven stops in 55:59 of action. The loss closes out the Mount Saint Vincent season with a 6-8 overall record.
