Lycoming Falls, as No. 13 Falcons Soar to MAC Win

GRANTHAM, Pa. Lycoming fell on the road at No. 13 Messiah, 20-1, on Wednesday afternoon, April 27, in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

A pair of goals from Rachel Dirksen and one from Leezy Keeney in the first 2:30 helped the Falcons (14-1 overall, 11-0 MAC) take a 3-0 lead before junior Grace Gargiulo (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata) became the first player in school history to reach 75 goals in a season with a tally seven minutes into the game.

The nationally-ranked Falcons took over from there, though, as they scored 17 straight goals to wrap up the game, as they held a 13-1 halftime lead.

Gargiulo also led the Warriors (3-12 overall, 3-8 MAC) with three groundballs and both sophomore Brooke Strausser (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) and senior goalkeeper Libby Stoesz (Akron, Pa./Conestoga Valley) each had two groundballs. In net, Stoesz made 12 saves.

Keeney led the Falcons with six goals and two assists and Kara Geiman added four goals and two assists. Geiman also led the team with five groundballs, three caused turnovers and five draw controls. Taylor Phillips stopped one shot in net.

The Warriors close out their season on Saturday, April 30, with a trip to FDU-Florham for a 1:00 p.m. Middle Atlantic Conference game.
