Goophers Roll Past West Virginia Wesleyan

TOWSON, Md. Nine different players scored goals for Goucher this afternoon as the Gophers pinned a 21-2 setback on West Virginia Wesleyan.

Hannah Khin, Andi Lipson, Mary Lambert and Becca Smith all had two goals to their credit before the visiting Bobcats (1-10) got on the scoreboard for the first time on a goal by Erin Guthall 10:10 into the contest.

The Gophers (8-7) tallied the final eight goals of the first half and the first five of the second period to take a 21-1 lead before Guthall stuck her second goal with 51 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

Khin contributed five goals to the victory, raising her team-leading total for the season to 62. Smith finished with four goals and six assists, making her the first Goucher player with at least 10 points in a game since Marlo Tersigni's seven-goal, four-assist performance against Sewanee on March 18, 2009.

Goucher unleashed 31 shots compared to just seven for the first-year Division II program.

In their eight victories so far this season, head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers are averaging 18.3 goals; in their seven losses, that figure drops to 8.3.
