No. 2 Hamilton Corrals the Thoroughbreds

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.- Hamilton College remained unbeaten in Liberty League women's lacrosse play with a 13-7 win over Skidmore College, Friday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.

It was the regular season final for the Thoroughbreds who finish fourth with a 10-7 overall and 5-3 Liberty League record. The second ranked Continentals (14-1, 7-0) will play at Union College Saturday for the Liberty League regular season title and the right to host the Liberty League Championship, May 6-7. Skidmore will face the number one team in a May 6 semifinal.

Robin Fetterolf scored on Skidmore's first shot of the game to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead at 27:33. Hamilton ran off five straight, including a pair by Katie D'Antonio to lead 5-1 with 18:40 to play in the half.

Skidmore battled back on goals 22 seconds apart by Lexi Melville and Summer Segalas at 18:28 and 18:02 to cut it to 5-3. After nearly 18 minutes of scoreless play, Hamilton's Rachel Friedman got loose to score with six seconds left in the half to make it 6-3.

The momentum carried over into the second half, with Libby Schultz scoring three straight goals for the Continentals to extend the lead to 9-3. After trading the next four goals, the Thoroughbreds cut it to within four, 11-7 on goals by Kimberly Segalas at 7:32 and Lauren McCarthy at 6:42. That would be as close as Skidmore would get, with Hamilton getting a pair of insurance goals by Kate Otley at 4:55 and Sarah Bray at 4:09 for the 13-7 final.

Kimberly Segalas led Skidmore with two goals, an assist, and three draw controls. Summer Segalas also had two goals. Leslie Stebbins had three ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Thoroughbreds.

Schultz finished with three goals for Hamilton. D'Antonio and Friedman had two goals and two assists each, while Martha Peck added a goal and three assists. Friedman now has 54 goals on the season. Bray contributed a goal, assist, six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Hamilton had a 23-16 shot advantage and 24-16 groundball edge. Skidmore had 15 of 22 draw controls.

Thoroughbred goalie Rachel Klein had seven saves, while Hamilton's Dewi Caswell had eight saves, including six in the second half.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Libby Schultz '12 scored a game-high three goals to lead nationally ranked No. 2 Hamilton College to a 13-7 win against Skidmore College in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game at Skidmore's Wachenheim Field on April 29.

Hamilton (14-1 overall, 7-0 Liberty) won its 12th straight game and improved to 7-0 away from home this year. The Continentals can clinch their fourth league regular season title in the last five years with a victory at league rival Union College on Saturday, April 30. Union -- 6-1 in the league -- would tie Hamilton for first place with a win against the Continentals.

Skidmore (10-7, 5-3) slipped to fourth place in the league standings behind Rensselaer, which is 5-2 in the league. The top four teams qualify for the league championship, which is held at the No. 1 seed on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7. The Thoroughbreds have lost three of their last four games.

Katie D'Antonio '14 and Rachel Friedman '13 chipped in two goals and two assists apiece for Hamilton. D'Antonio added three draw controls. Martha Plack '14 scored one goal and was credited with three assists.

Sarah Bray '11 posted one goal, one assist, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Ashley Allen '12, Anne Graveley '11, Kate Otley '12 and Caroline Morgan '13 notched one goal each. Dewi Caswell '14 made eight saves, including six in the second half, and caused two turnovers.
