Merrimack Cruises to Victory at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, NH Merrimack used a dominating first half to cruise to a 17-4 win over Saint Anselm Friday in the final game of the regular season.

With the victory, the Warriors' second straight, Merrimack (9-5, 6-4 NE-10) finishes fifth in the Northeast-10 and will take on fourth-seeded Bentley Tuesday in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals in Waltham, Mass. The winner will head to top-seed Le Moyne Friday for the Northeast-10 Semifinals with the championships scheduled for Sunday.

Nine different Warriors scored in the win, as the visitors scored the first eight goals and led 13-1 at halftime, and 15-1 midway through the third quarter.

Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) notched two goals and two assists in the win, giving him 30 goals on the year and 101 career points in two seasons.

Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) totaled three goals and five points, becoming the sixth player on the team to reach 20 points on the year. Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA) added three goals and an assist, while Brad McAdam (Neshanic Station, NJ), Terence Barclay (Babylon, NY) and Paul Jones (Guilderland, NY) each scored twice.

Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) made four stops in the first half, while Sean Payne (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) picked up 10 second-half saves.

Merrimack won 16 of 24 draws in the game, while outshooting the Hawks 23-9 in the first half.

"Our offense had another strong outing," said head coach Mike Morgan. "Our defense did a good job of swarming to the ball all day. We have been hitting our shots lately off very good ball movement. The team is ready for the postseason beginning Tuesday."

Merrimack fell to Bentley 9-8 on April 19 at Warrior Field, losing at home for just the fourth time in the last four seasons.
