Widener Edges Alvernia in Conference Action
Chester, Pa. (Apr. 29, 2011) - Widener (9-8, 6-6) scored three of the game's last five goals for a 12-11 victory over Alvernia (10-8, 7-5) Friday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Widener.
Widener's 9-6 lead midway through the second half was the largest lead of the game for either team. The Pride pushed out to a 12-10 lead with under two minute to go and Alvernia's Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored the final goal of the game seconds later.
Alvernia got two goals each from four different players, Walsh, Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), Alli Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin). Junior goalie Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) made 11 saves.
The Crusaders will qualify for the Commonwealth playoffs next Tuesday and will play in the 4-5 game as either host or guest.
