UCLA Tops Crosstown Rival USC

Los Angeles, California - Playoff bound UCLA beats divisional opponent and crosstown rival USC, 10-9, behind a pair of hat tricks by junior midfielders Matt Creem and JR Borneman, who also notched an assist for four points on the night.

With the win, UCLA finishes the regular season 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the SLC North Division. The Bruins are playoff bound after three divisional wins over Claremont, Loyola Marymount, and now USC.

After going down 1-0 early in the first quarter, UCLA turned the tables and took the lead for the remainder of the game. The game was end-to-end action for sixty minutes with the two teams exchanging goals the whole way. Freshman midfielder Tom Jardine scored two goals and had an assist to one of freshman attack Zack Winters' pair of goals. Goaltender Martin Alonzo contributed 15 saves, many of which came late in the game to hold the lead.

The UCLA Bruins will be back in action on Saturday, April 30th for the quarterfinals of the SLC Conference Tournament. The Bruins will travel to Manchester Field, San Diego to take on the USD Toreros at 3:00 pm PST. This will be the second match up between these two teams this year as the Toreros outlasted the Bruins 8-7 in a marathon quadruple overtime game. UCLA looks to turn the tide on USD and advance to the semifinals.
