Presidents Fall in Finale to 12th-Ranked Wittenberg

WASHINGTON, Pa. Brady Christensen recorded three goals and three assists to lift 12th-ranked Wittenberg to a 9-1 men's lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson on Senior Day Saturday afternoon for the Presidents at Alexandre Stadium.

The game was the final one in a W&J uniform for three seniors: Ryan Grubb (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), Ben Hilarides (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and Aaron Rohlfing (Baltimore, Md./Towson Catholic). Grubb finished his 53rd game today for the Presidents which ties the school's career record.

Wittenberg dominated the game from the onset as Jack Bornhofen scored 1:20 into the match and Christensen followed five minutes later with the first of his trio of goals. Christensen scored twice during a three-goal second period for a 5-0 halftime lead.

The Tigers (12-1) added the first three goals of the second half to build an 8-0 advantage.

W&J finally got on the scoreboard at the 2: 54 mark of the third quarter when sophomore midfielder Dylan Haas (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) won a faceoff and fed sophomore attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) for a goal.

Matt Lord also finished with three goals for the Tigers, who held a 42-20 edge in shots and a 27-24 advantage in ground balls. Wittenberg was 0 for 4 on extra-man chances, but scored twice one second after man-up opportunities had expired. Mark DeOliveira played all 60 minutes in goal and collected eight saves.

Sophomore goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) totaled 17 saves in the loss for W&J. His 175 saves this season rank as the second-highest, single-season total in school history.
