No. 7 Duke Holds off Jacksonville for 12th Win

Wigrizer had eight saves in the first half as Duke held the Dolphins to just one goal for the final 21:55 of the first half. Jacksonville managed just four shots in the second quarter and won one faceoff.

The third quarter continued to go in Duke's favor with the Blue Devils starting the frame with a goal from Spillane for a 7-1 lead. Jacksonville responded with consecutive tallies to stop its scoreless streak at 26:48 and make it a four-goal game, 7-3.

Holding a five-goal advantage heading into the final quarter, Duke had its lead cut to three after the Dolphins finished back-to-back goals midway through the stanza. The Blue Devil defense held off Jacksonville's attempt at a late comeback and Spillane added one more goal to ice the four-goal win for the Blue Devils.

Duke outshot Jacksonville 46-42 and won the ground ball battle 48-42. The Blue Devils won 12 of 19 restarts with Brendan Fowler winning 6 of 10. Greg DeLuca and Christian Walsh both led the way with five ground balls for Duke. Jacksonville goaltender Peter DeLuca had an outstanding afternoon with 20 saves on 30 shots on goal.

Duke will await its fate in the NCAA Tournament. The bracket is set to be announced on May 8 on ESPNU.
