Emala's Eight Points Lead Georgetown Past Rutgers

PISCATAWAY. N.J. (April 30, 2011) Rutgers (5-9, 0-9 Big East) fell to Georgetown Hoyas (6-7, 3-2 Big East), 12-9, this evening at Yurcak Field. For the game, RU was led by Scott Klimchak (Clark, N.J.) who tallied three points on two goals and an assist.

The Scarlet Knights started the game strong when Kevin Hover (Belle Mead, N.J.) made a nifty move and found the back of the net just over a minute into the game to give RU an early 1-0 lead. Georgetown was quick to respond, getting a goal from Brett Weiss a minute and 14 seconds later to even the score.

The Weiss goal seemed to spark the Hoyas, as they ran off the next five goals of the game to jump out to a 6-1 lead midway through the second period. RU would not give in and was able to get a pair back before halftime on goals from Mike Diehl (Flemington, N.J.) and Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.). After Diehl scored on a rocket shot at the 4:19 mark, Mangan shook his defender and beat the keeper high to send the teams to the locker room with the Hoyas in front 6-3.

Georgetown struck first in the second pushing its lead to 7-3, but RU quickly responded getting a pair of quick goals from Matt Klimchak (Clark, N.J.) and Andrew D'Agostino (Syracuse, N.Y.). Matt Klimchak scored after getting free in front of the cage and catching a beautiful feed from Mangan. D'Agostino scored a mere six seconds later, getting a feed off a draw win from Chris Mattes (Westfield, N.J.) to cut the GU lead to two at 7-5.

After Weiss scored again for the Hoyas, RU tallied another two goal run. The first RU goal came during a delayed penalty on Georgetown when Scott Klimchak made a nice move at the side of the cage to break free from a pair of defenders and then scored on a beautiful diving shot. RU was able to cut the lead to a goal when Diehl scored off a blistering pass from Scott Klimchak exactly a minute later to make the score 8-7. The Hoyas got a goal with 34 seconds left in the third to take a 9-7 lead into the final frame.

In the fourth, the Hoyas came out strong getting a goal 11 seconds in to regain a three goal cushion. RU responded when Duncan Clancy (Princeton, N.J.) found some space and ripped a shot past the GU keeper to make the score, 10-8. GU would tally the next two goals to regain a four goal advantage before Scott Klimchak scored his second goal of the game but it wasn't enough for RU, as Georgetown hung on for the 12-9 victory.

The Scarlet Knights return to action on Saturday, May 7, when they close out their season by welcoming Big East rival Providence to Yurcak Field for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
