Oswego State Ends Season with Loss at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Oswego State found itself trailing 4-0 after the first period, and was never able to on track in a 16-9 loss at Brockport on Saturday to close out the 2011 season.

Pat Decker paced the Lakers with two goals and two assists, while the Golden Eagles were led by Andy Hilton's four goals. Oswego State finished the year at 5-10 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC. Brockport clinched the final spot in the conference playoffs with the win after moving to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.

The Golden Eagles' four-goal lead after the first quarter was due to two goals apiece for Mike Tammaro and Andy Hilton. Casey Balzer got the Lakers on the board 3:31 into the second period during a man-up situation, but Brockport recorded the next two goals ten seconds apart to go up 6-1. Oswego State answered back with goals from Britt Leone, Decker, and Chris Porten to trail by only two markers. However, a Golden Eagle man-up goal in the final minute gave Brockport a 7-4 lead at the break.

Porten tallied his 16th goal of the season out of intermission, but Brendon Rothfuss marched down the field six seconds later to make it a three-goal margin again. Rothfuss' goal sparked a 4-0 run by the Golden Eagles for an 11-5 advantage. Mark Briggs made it an 11-6 game with an unassisted goal, but Brockport posted another late goal with six seconds left in the third quarter.

The Golden Eagles started the fourth quarter fast as they scored three goals in a 23-second span to go ahead 15-6. Oswego State continued to battle, though, as it received goals from Brad Teal and Decker. Brockport added its final goal of the game before senior Danny Connors registered his first collegiate goal with 1:26 remaining.

Laker goalie Ian O'Brien finished the game with 11 saves in the losing effort, while Jon Fiorillo made 11 saves for the Golden Eagles.
