Tigers Down Mesa to Tie School Record for Victories

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Colorado College equaled the program record for victories in a single season by edging Mesa State College, 16-11, in the regular-season finale for both teams on a blustery Saturday afternoon at CC's Stewart.

Kate Krieger ignited a 6-1 run early in the second half as the Tigers broke open a tight game to record their 13th victory of the year, matching the school record set by the 2004 squad that advanced to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament.

Grace Maloney struck for a pair of goals as Colorado College grabbed a 5-1 lead 9:58 into the game, but the Mavericks went on a 5-1 run of their own and forged a tie with 6:08 remaining in the half after Maria Heilner and Allie Henderson scored just 20 seconds apart.

Sarah Phillips put the Tigers ahead for good when she scored the second of her four goals with 1:52 to play before the break, and Lara Atkins added another marker 23 seconds later to give CC an 8-6 lead after 30 minutes.

Phillips extended the Tigers' lead to 9-6 when she added her third goal 1:03 into the second half, but MSC pulled to within a goal with 22:53 to play when Amanda Simon and Alexis Rawlings found the net in a span of 25 seconds.

Abby Fink went the distance between the pipes for CC, which improved to 13-3. Bailey Terhune led the defensive effort with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Leslie Jacoby scored twice and set up another goal, while Lara Atkins and Ellie Cole came off the bench to record a pair of scores for the Tigers.

Colorado College finished with a 41-27 advantage in total shots, including 34 on goal. The Tigers also led 25-17 in ground balls and 17-12 in draw controls.

Lauren Wells made 18 saves for the Mavericks, who finished their inaugural season with a 3-9 record.
