CC Edges Mesa State to Remain Undefeated

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Travis Voges and Jake Smith each scored a pair of goals as Colorado College kept its perfect record intact with a 7-4 victory over Mesa State College on Saturday night at CC's Washburn Field.

Voges put the Tigers on the board 3:48 into the contest and Smith added a pair of goals 59 seconds apart late in the first period, but from that point on CC would only get four other shots past Maverick goaltender Brad Brandenburg.

Charles Curtis gave Colorado College a 4-0 lead early in the second period and that lead stood up until MSC's Jon Moore scored as time expired.

Kade Robinson trimmed the Tigers' advantage to 4-2 midway through the third period, and after CC's Jack Kreitler got that goal back with 3:10 remaining in the third period, Robinson scored with one second to go after taking a "Hail Mary" pass from Brandenburg.

Mesa State got to within 5-4 when Jojo Milosevic scored 3:34 into the third period, but Voges doubled the Tigers' lead 1:56 later after taking a feed from Smith and Carson Christman added an insurance goal with 42 seconds remaining in the game.

Christman set up three of CC's markers to finish with four points.

Brandenburg finished with 17 saves, while Max Freter made one stop while Brandenburg was serving a penalty. Johnny Nitti had five caused turnovers and seven ground balls for the Mavericks.

Zach Steedman steered aside 10 shots as the Tigers' defense held an opponent to five or fewer goals for the 10th time this season. Chris Kolodey caused five turnovers and grabbed four ground balls for CC.

Colorado College plays host to Adams State College on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
