Woodstick Classic Headlines Regular Season Play

Two of the nation's most storied high school lacrosse programs met for the 120th time this past weekend when Garden City claimed the Woodstick Trophy with a 10-6 victory over Manhasset. The Woodstick Classic is the nation's oldest uninterrupted public school lacrosse rivalry.

Garden City coach Stephen Jahelka accepted the trophy from Manhasset coach Bill Cherry on Saturday after the Indians claimed the title the previous two seasons. Sparked by a balanced offensive unit, the Trojans used a six-goal run in the second half to notch the victory.

Finally, in a match-up featuring two of LaxPower's Top 10 teams, Haverford School remained unbeaten on Saturday thanks to an 11-6 victory over Conestoga in the most anticipated game at the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival. Midfielder Brendan McGrath led a balanced Haverford offense with three goals. The Fords are just the first team since St. Joseph's Prep in 2009 to score 10 or more goals against Conestoga.
