#11 JMU Edges William & Mary in CAA Semifinals
While JMU extended he margin to 5-2 with 10:07 showing on the clock, W&M charged back with three quick unanswered goals to knot the score. Holofcener ignited the 3-0 run when she scored off a rebounded shot at 7:42, while Mackrides tallied her second 8-meter goal of the contest 25 seconds later to cut the deficit to just one. Holofcener finished off the run less than a minute later when she found the back of the cage at 6:33.
After being held scoreless for a span of more than nine minutes, JMU ended the drought when Monica Zabel registered a goal with 1:00 remaining to give the Dukes a 6-5 edge at the break.
Each team had six draw controls and 12 shots apiece in the tightly contested first half.
W&M wasted no time evening the contest early in the second half, as Salmon scored off a pass from Golden less than a minute into the stanza to tie the game at 6-6.
However, JMU answered with a 4-0 run that lasted until Golden tallied a goal with 15:53 remaining. Less than a minute later, Mackrides' third free position goal of the game narrowed the margin to 10-8.
After the Dukes took an 11-8 lead with 9:00 remaining, the Tribe cut the lead to two again on Golden's second goal of the game with just 1:18 left. Although W&M won the ensuing draw, it was unable to get a shot off and JMU held on for the victory.
Despite the loss, the Tribe recorded its fourth consecutive double-digit win season.
