No. 3 Mercyhurst Cruises by Dominican in ECC Play

Erie, PA (5/7/11) -- Dominican ended the 2011 season with a loss to #3 Mercyhurst, 13-5, this afternoon in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game played at Mercyhurst. With the loss, DC ends the season with an overall record of 2-13 and a 1-9 ECC record, while MC improves to 12-2 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

Senior midfielder Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) led the Charger offense with four goals and one assist for five points on the day. Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 10 saves in the loss.

Peterson netted his first goal of the game just 1:44 seconds into the first to give DC a 1-0 lead. Mercyhurst tied the game a little over three minutes later. Senior Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) regained a 2-1 advantage for Dominican with a manu-up goal off the assist from Peterson with 7:56 left to play in the first.

A 2-0 run by Mercyhurst put them up 3-2, but Peterson scored his second goal of the contest with 0:35 left to tie the game at 3-3 at the intermission.

The Lakers netted the first three goals of the third period to go ahead 6-3, but Peterson pulled DC within two goals (6-4) with just over five and a half minutes to play in the period. MC closed out the third with two goals and added another two to start the fourth to build up a 10-4 lead with 11:28 on the clock.

Peterson netted his 24th goal of the season and what would be the final Dominican goal of the year on the man-up opportunity off the pass from Jones with 10:52 to play. Mercyhurst scored the last three goals of the game for the final 13-5 score.
