80-Yard Goal Helps Gonzaga Win the WCAC
Gonzaga defeated Good Counsel, 10-8, on Monday night to win the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) boys' lacrosse championship. But the final goal was unusual, to say the least.
With the clock running down, Gonzaga defenseman Matt Borda threw a pass of about 80 yards from behind his own goal to keep the clock moving and get ball away from that end of the field.
With Good Counsel pressing upfield for a turnover and a shot at a goal to tie, Borda's long heave found the net at the other end of the field to put a seal on the victory for the Eagles.
