WNEC Cruises Past Simmons in ECAC Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) scored five goals with an assist as top-seeded Western New England cruised past fourth-seeded Simmons 22-2 in a semifinal round contest of the ECAC Division III New England Championship Wednesday (May 12).

The Golden Bears (16-5) will meet the Curry-Lasell winner (who play tonight) at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 14) in the title contest.

With her six-point showing, Barbato became just the second player in program history to reach 300 points. She now has 303 points for her career.

Freshman midfielder Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) added four goals and three assists while sophomore attacker Ali Pepe (North Reading, MA) contributed three goals coming off the bench.

Ten players scored goals for the hosts who rolled to a 13-0 lead at half-time.

Simmons tallied the last two goals of the game when senior attacker Sarah Pontarelli (Narragansett, RI) and freshman midfielder Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, MA) found the back of the net.
