Tennessee Boys' Lacrosse Final Four Preview

Friday's semifinal contest will also be a re-match of last season's championship game. In that contest, the Blue Tornado reeled off eight-straight goals before posting an 8-1 victory, marking the team's second championship in as many years. As for this battle, expect LSM Noah Hanover to quarterback the defense along with goalie Bass Barfield. Additionally, Brier Davis and Reed Butler have emerged as go-to threats on the offensive side for McCallie and will likely have a big say as to whether the squad reaches the '11 championship game.

All the while, Memphis University School comes into semifinal play as the slight tournament favorite. The Owls went undefeated (8-0) in Tennessee action this season, beating Montgomery Bell twice. Like McCallie, Memphis faced a tough schedule that included losses to Islip (NY) and Harrison (GA). With both teams battle-tested this year, expect nothing less than a gritty, hard-nosed affair that proves close all the way through.

The Owls feature one of the top overall defenses in the state behind standouts Chase Schoelkopf, Russell Scott, Henry Dickinson and goalie Rob Dickinson. Take away the team's 12-7 loss to Islip on March 24 and the Owls have held their remaining 13 opponents to an average of four goals per game. Offensively, sophomore Peyton Klawinski is an elite playmaker and natural goal scorer.

In Division II action this weekend, Pope John Paul II (14-4) takes on Ensworth (8-8) in the first semifinal match-up Friday. Then, Webb-Knoxville (9-2) battles Collierville (13-4) in the other semifinal contest of the day. The winners will meet for the title on Saturday beginning at 2 PM at Ensworth High School. The Division I finale is set for Saturday at 5 PM also at Ensworth.
