Four New Champions Crowned in Georgia Lacrosse

The Lambert boys' lacrosse team notched its first lacrosse championship on Friday thanks to a 14-7 victory over Pope in the Georgia High School Association Class A-AAAA Finals. The historic victory also marked Lambert's first state title in any sport.

All-American attackman Adam Seal led the way for Lambert with five goals and one assist, including four scores in the first half. Teammates Zack Price, Connor Butz, and Brady Wilson combined to net six goals in the win.

Seal and company held a slight edge throughout the first half before taking a 5-3 lead into halftime. Two early goals in the third increased Lambert's lead to 7-3 before Pope made its move. The squad then scored four of the next five overall goals to make it 8-7 Lambert early in the fourth quarter.

However, Lambert's balanced offense proved to be too much for Pope to handle for four quarters. The Longhorns reeled off six consecutive goals to turn a tight contest into a comfortable win in just one period of play. Five different Lambert players scored a goal in the final quarter to give the Longhorns the championship.

The Longhorns finish the season with a record of 21-1, a 20-game winning streak, and the No. 1 spot in the LaxPower Georgia rankings.

Pope attackman Corbin Jensen tallied four scores for his squad, including three in the first half. The Greyhounds end their season with a record of 17-4 overall.

Georgia Boys' Class AAAAA Championship

In Class AAAAA action, Walton claimed the '11 GHSA title following an 8-4 victory over Harrison on Saturday. The Raiders put forth one of their best defensive performances of the season and held a dangerous Harrison squad without a goal for the game's first three quarters.

After a scoreless first stanza, the Raider offense found their stride and registered four goals to grab a 4-0 lead at intermission. One more Walton goal pushed the team's lead to five before Harrison finally found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter.

While the Walton defense was rock-solid for most of the contest, Harrison was still able to fire nearly 40 shots on goal. However, an aggressive Walton defense forced Harrison into low-percentage looks, shots off the mark or attempts met by goalie Michael Harper, who finished with 18 stops.

Joe Cherof scored a game-high three goals for Walton, while teammates Matthew Morabito and Ned Kaish each scored twice. The Raiders finished the season 18-3 overall and also avenged an earlier season loss to Harrison, which occurred back on April 28.

Nick Green led the way for Harrison (15-4) with two fourth-quarter scores on Saturday.
