Maryland (MIAA) Championships Set for Friday

Meanwhile, Gilman is riding the coattails of one of the most impressive comeback victories in recent memory. On Wednesday, the Greyhounds faced off against longtime rival Boys' Latin in the MIAA A semifinal round. Despite being a man down, the Greyhounds scored three goals in the final 62 seconds to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, senior midfielder Ryan Tucker found the back of the net just 52 seconds into the period to give his team the 7-6 victory and a trip to the '11 championship game. Tucker finished with three goals on the day and teammate Conor Doyle added two goals and two assists.

The result marked the third time this season that Gilman had defeated Boys' Latin. All three games were decided by one goal, with two needing overtime.

While the Greyhounds are hoping that incredible heroics will not be needed on Friday, they will likely rely on standouts Tucker and Doyle to set the tone from the very onset. Also, look for senior midfielder Garrett Paglia to be involved frequently for Gilman and a solid third option.

Friday's championship marks the second time this season that Gilman and Calvert Hall will have faced each other. Back on April 26, Calvert Hall posted a 9-5 victory. Cardinal attackman Patrick Kelly scored four goals, including three in the fourth quarter, as Calvert Hall tallied four unanswered strikes in the final stanza to come away victorious.
