Dominican (CA) Adds 15 Recruits for 2011-2012

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. Dominican University of California Head Coach Ned Webster has announced that 15 student-athletes will be added to the Penguins roster for the 2012 season.

Webster, in his seventh season as head coach, bolsters a deep roster that did not lose a single player to graduation and includes nine players named to the 2011 Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) All-Western Team. The 2012 recruiting is certain to breed leadership for the Penguins all 15 players served as team captains in their senior seasons.

"Top to bottom, this is our strongest recruiting class ever. They are all accomplished students-athletes, and they all come from good families with high morals," said Webster. "This class will push our returners every day in practice and create an intensity between games that we've never had before. This competition for starting spots and playing time will help lead us to bigger and better things in 2012."

Dominican finished the season strong in 2011 by handing Notre Dame de Namur University its only WILA loss with a convincing 9-3 victory in the "Battle For The Bay" at Kezar Stadium on April 30.

Brief player bios appear below along with Webster's comments.

Dylan Acevedo/Yorba Linda, CA/Mater Dei HS/Midfielder
Acevedo was a three-time member of the All-Trinity League. In his junior season, Acevedo was named to the All-Orange County first team and was the Trinity League Offensive Player of the Year. Webster: "What drew me to Dylan was his intensity and his fire. He is a competitor who really wants to win. Dylan does a lot well: he faces off, he plays smart defense, and he's dangerous at the offensive end. What is unique about Dylan is the vision and unselfishness he possesses for a midfielder."

Nick Allan/Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy HS/Defender
The 6-foot-4 Allan was the 2011 Pike's Peak Conference Player of the Year, marking the first time that a defender has earned the honor. Additionally, he was named the 2011 All-State Second Team. He was a two-time Pike's Peak First Team member in his junior and senior campaigns. Allan has also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-State honors during his sophomore through senior seasons. Webster: "Nick has that outstanding blend of having quick feet for a large man. He can press out to the sidelines under control and not get beat. Nick has an aggressiveness and nastiness about him that make attackmen run away."

Jake Bernstein/Kirkland, WA/International Community School/Midfielder
Bernstein was invited to participate in the Adrenaline All-American Game on June 5, 2011. He earned All-State honors his sophomore, junior, and senior campaigns. Webster: "Jake is smart, fast, quick, tough, active off-ball, and he will be an excellent dodging threat for us. He will be an outstanding representative of this program on and off the field."

Patrick Butler/La Jolla, CA/La Jolla Country Day School/Midfielder
Butler was a 2011 Second Team All-Conference member after the Torrey Pines captured the 2011 Coast Conference Championship. He also served as team captain during his junior season. Webster: "Patrick is an outstanding faceoff middie who relishes the role and works very hard to perfect his craft. For a team that was below 500-percent in faceoffs the past two seasons, Patrick will help fill a much needed role."

Case Donahue/El Dorado Hills, CA/Oak Ridge HS/Midfielder
Donahue earned 2010 and 2011 Delta River League All-Conference honors. Webster: "Case really matured physically during his senior year, mainly because of his commitment to the weight room, which is a sign of good things to come for him. He may be more accomplished at the defensive end, but his shot and dodging skills have really strengthened this year."
