Georgetown Announces Its 2011-2012 Captains

WASHINGTON -- Georgetown has announced its captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Kelly Barnes (St. Davids Pa./Radnor), Erin Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Carly Napora (Columbia, Md./McDonogh School) were selected by their peers to lead the squad during the 2012 season.

"I'm very excited about our captains this upcoming season," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "They're a talented group both on and off the field and are held in high esteem by their teammates."

Barnes is a returning captain after leading the squad last season. She earned her second-consecutive spot on the All-Big East team with a nod to the Second Team at the conference banquet in 2011. The defender started all 17 games and ranked third in ground balls with 27 as well as third in caused turnovers with 17. Barnes also had one goal to her credit this past season.

Napora worked her way into the starting lineup last season appearing and starting in 16 games for the Blue & Gray. She had 12 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers as well as six caused turnovers last season. Napora has been a solid defender for the Hoyas taking on the task of guarding some of the top players in the nation.

Lovett will return to the field next year after an injury forced her to sit out the 2011 season. She started in two games with three goals and three assists for six points before suffering her season-ending injury. As a sophomore, Lovett played in 17 games with one start and had 13 goals with nine assists.

Georgetown finished the season with a record of 9-8 after winning the Big East Regular Season Championship for the fourth-consecutive year. The Hoyas lose seven seniors, including five starters, next season but return three of their top four scorers.
