Colfer Named Asst. AD for Recruitment & Retention

RADNOR, Pa. Cabrini head coach Steve Colfer, who will begin his 12th season with the Cavaliers in 2012, has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment and Retention, Director of Athletics and Recreation Joe Giunta announced.

"Steve Colfer has been one of the hardest working and most dedicated employees on this campus for fifteen years while splitting his time between two departments," Giunta said. "We are thrilled to be able to offer him this opportunity to work full-time within Athletics and Recreation at Cabrini where his skills as a recruiter, coach and admissions professional will join together to strengthen this department. In the end, the student-athletes will benefit most from this commitment by the College."

Colfer makes the full-time move over to Cabrini Athletics after serving the last 13 years in the College's Admissions Office, most recently as the Senior Associate Director of Admissions and 11 years as the Cavaliers' part-time men's lacrosse head coach.

As Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment and Retention, Colfer will work closely with the Enrollment Management Division, coaches and student-athletes to enhance the overall experience from recruitment to graduation. Through one-on-one and group interaction with coaches, more focused open houses and various other recruiting strategies, he will help improve the academic and wellness experiences of the student-athletes.

"I am extremely excited about this new position and look forward to the challenges that this position will provide me. It has always been a dream of mine to work in athletic administration," Colfer said. "I also want to personally thank Cabrini President Dr. Marie George, Vice Presidents Dr. Christine Lysionek and Dennis Kelly, and Director of Athletics and Recreation Joe Giunta for making this possible."

Colfer has guided the Cabrini men's lacrosse program to national prominence in his 11 seasons, winning 11 straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) titles and appearing in 10 consecutive NCAA Tournaments. The Cavaliers have celebrated 24 USILA All-America selections under his tutelage, including first-team honoree Casey Grugan (2007-10) in 2010.

Colfer captured his 150th career victory on the Blue & White sidelines versus Marywood University in the 2011 CSAC title game. Beginning the 2011 season, he ranked second among active Division III head coaches in winning percentage (.789) and third all-time.

Including the postseason, the Cavaliers have won 104 straight games against conference opponents since Colfer's first season in 2001. He is a six-time CSAC Coach of the Year, last earning the award in 2011.

Colfer began his tenure with Cabrini as the program's offensive coordinator in 1997. He held that role for four seasons before being named the program's head coach prior to the 2001 campaign.

Colfer's coaching resume extends beyond the US borders as he has served as the head coach of the Bermuda National Team since 2009. He guided the Bermudians to their first international win all-time at the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Championships in Manchester, England.

Colfer graduated with a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Scranton in 1993. He earned a master's of science degree in education from West Chester University in 1999.
