Wilmington Promotes Trainer to Head Coach

NEW CASTLE, DE Wilmington University Athletic Director Linda Andrzjewski is pleased to announce that Jackie Trainer has been promoted to head coach, effective immediately.

Coach Trainer had been serving as interim head coach for the last six weeks, following former coach Dave Bugda's resignation. She spent the last two seasons as the top assistant to Bugda, and brings with her a wealth of coaching and playing experience.

A two-sport athlete, Coach Trainer was a standout lacrosse and field hockey player at Council Rock High School. She is a 2009 graduate of Monmouth University, where she was a four-year member of the Hawks lacrosse team. In her four seasons, Trainer helped lead the squad to three regular season Northeast Conference titles (2005, 2006, 2008), along with one Northeast Conference Tournament Championships (2007). She also helped guide the Hawks to the first round of the NCAA National Tournament in 2007.

Prior to coming to Wilmington, she spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Monmouth, and also coached at St. James Elementary in Red Bank, NJ. Trainer has also spent time working at the T3 Summer Clinic and the Nike Lacrosse Camp.

She is still an active player, and in 2010 was invited to play for USAAI in the Down Under Cup in Melbourne, Australia. Trainer was awarded team MVP in a game against theU-19 Australian National Team. She also traveled with the USAAI club program in 2008 and competed in the Berlin Open and Prague Cup.

"We feel that Coach Trainer is the right person to lead this team", stated Andrzjewski. "She has the passion, drive, and knowledge to turn the women's lacrosse program into one of the elite squads in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. I am confident that our student-athletes will enjoy the opportunity to learn from her."

Coach Trainer earned dual bachelor's degrees in Political Science and History from Monmouth, and resides in Philadelphia. Currently, she is the girls' director for the Rippin' Rope Lacrosse Club, and coaches the U-15 girls team.
