Bill Milone Added to Notre Dame Operations Staff

NOTRE DAME, Ind. Bill Milone, a veteran of the lacrosse world for over 20 years, has joined the operations staff for the University of Notre Dame men's lacrosse program. Milone comes to Notre Dame from Limestone College in South Carolina, where he spent the past three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the Saints.

"I am looking forward to not only working with a great lacrosse staff at Notre Dame, but also one of the premier athletic departments in the country" says Milone.

Milone earned All-America honors as a goalie during his playing days at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. He graduated from Pfeiffer in 1995 and began his coaching career at his alma mater beginning in 1996. Milone served as the defensive coordinator for the Falcons.

Following a three-year stint at Pfeiffer, Milone was hired as an assistant coach at Limestone College in 1999. He helped guide the Saints to the 2000 NCAA Division II national title before being named the interim head coach for the 2001 campaign. He steered Limestone to a 13-3 record in '01 and the program made its second straight appearance in the national title game.

Milone went on to serve as an assistant coach for Rutgers University for four seasons (2002-05). He returned to Limestone in January 2008 to assume the position of Assistant Director of Admissions. Milone worked primarily with the goalies and the defensive personnel during his time as a volunteer assistant coach with the Saints. He helped the Saints to the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Conference Carolinas Championships as well as consecutive NCAA final four appearances.

Milone has coached numerous All-America and all-conference selections throughout his career, which also has included time at Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J.

"Bill has a wealth of experience in college lacrosse," says Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan. "He's coached both men and women and he's been involved in the administrative side and he's also worked in admissions at schools. We are really lucky to get someone with Bill's experience because of his understanding of the administrative side, his understanding of our sport and his understanding of our kids. He also understands our program's place at the school and in the community. We're really excited about what he can do for us in the coming years."
