Ackerman Leaves Longwood to Become HS AD

Missy Ackerman has resigned as head coach at Longwood University to become the director of athletics at Saint Gertrude High School in Richmond, Virginia, which is where she has maintained her residence.

Ackerman completed her fifth year at Longwood and second as head coach during the 2011 season. She led the Lancers to a record of 10-8 in 2010, including 6-0 in the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC), while winning the NLC tournament championship and being named conference Co-Coach of the Year. She previously served as head coach at Sweet Briar College (2003-2006), her alma mater, as well as at Randolph-Macon College (1996-2002), where she as women's lacrosse Coach of the Year three times, and Earlham College (Ind.) (1992-1995).

Ackerman was on the board of governors for the women's division of US Lacrosse and the board of the Richmond chapter of US Lacrosse. Since 2004, she has been the owner and president of Merestead Sports Camps (field hockey, lacrosse). A native of York, Maine, Ackerman earned her Bachelor of Arts in history from Sweet Briar in 1987 and received All-American honors in both field hockey and lacrosse as a senior, when she was ODAC Player of the Year in both sports.
