Syracuse to Host Second Orange Alumni Classic

SYRACUSE, N.Y. Syracuse will conclude its fall practice season with the second annual Orange Alumni Classic at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Oct. 8. This year's event features two games. The first is an "Old Timer's Game" beginning at 2:00 p.m. The second match starts at 3:30 p.m. and pits a team of past SU greats against the 2011-12 Orange squad.

Both games are open to the public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. All proceeds go directly to the men's lacrosse program. Parking is free in the Raynor Lot across from the Dome.

Led by five-time NCAA champion head coach John Desko, the 2011-12 Orange started fall practice on Sept. 19. Syracuse is coming a 15-2 season in which it won its second straight Big East regular-season championship and reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the 29th time.

Junior JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), an All-Big East Second Team selection in 2010, is the team's top returning scorer (23 goals, 18 assists). He'll be flanked by seniors Tim Desko (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Tommy Palasek (Rocky Point, N.Y.).

Despite missing seven games a year ago, Desko earned All-Big East honors and finished tied for fourth on the Orange with 16 goals. Palasek ranked third on the squad in scoring last season (35 points) and tied for the team lead with 18 assists.

Defensively, the Orange graduated the core of a unit that ranked in the top five nationally the past three years. The unit's top returner is junior close defenseman Brian Megill (Clark, N.J.). Another of the team's 2010 All-Big East selections, Megill has started every game of his career. He totaled 27 caused turnovers last season, the most of any SU close defender.

The team that will oppose the current Orange features some of the sport's premier players, including Team USA mainstay Mike Leveille, 2011 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Matt Abbott, lacrosse legend and current SU women's head coach Gary Gait, and 2011 USILA First Team All-Americans Joel White and John Lade.

A complete roster for the Syracuse All-Stars will be released in the days leading up to the event.
