Navy Lacrosse Announces Schedule for 2012

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's lacrosse program and head coach Cindy Timchal have recently announced the team's 2012 game schedule. The two-time defending Patriot League Champions will play nine of its 17 regular season games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Admission is free for all Navy home games.

The Mids will open their fifth season of varsity lacrosse on the road, taking on High Point on Saturday, Feb. 11 at noon. High Point will be beginning its second varsity season after winning 15 games in its inaugural year. Navy defeated High Point, 11-8, in 2011. The Mids are 4-0 all-time in season openers.

Navy's home opener will come against William & Mary on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 4:00 PM. William & Mary is 2-0 all-time against Navy and the Tribe was nationally ranked in each contest.

Navy will host Longwood on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon before embarking on a three-game road swing. The Mids will first take on Monmouth on Feb. 22 before contests at Davidson (Feb. 25) and Bryant (March 3).

Navy will then return to Annapolis for four home games in an eight-day stretch, beginning with Robert Morris on Wednesday, March 7 at 3:00 PM.

Navy will then play its Patriot League opener against Bucknell on Saturday, March 10 at noon. Navy is 4-0 all-time against Bucknell and the Mids defeated the Bison, 17-7, in 2011. Through their first four years of play in the Patriot League, the Mids sport a 17-7 (.708) league mark. Navy was 4-2 in league play last season.

The Mids wrap up their homestand with games against Iona on Monday, March 12 at 3:00 PM and Old Dominion on Wednesday, March 14, also at 3:00 PM. Both Iona and ODU are first-time opponents for Navy.

The team will travel to Lafayette on March 17 for its first Patriot League road game of the season. Navy is 4-0 all-time against Lafayette, outscoring the Leopards 71-32 in the series.

The biggest challenge on Navy's non-conference schedule will be a road game at defending national champion Northwestern on March 25 at noon. Navy hosted the Wildcats in 2011, falling to the then second-ranked team, 18-8. Northwestern went on to defeat Maryland in the 2011 National Championship, 8-7, for its sixth national title.

The Mids will have a quick turnaround after returning from Northwestern, as the team will host California on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 PM, its first of two home night games.

Patriot League play resumes on Saturday, March 31 when Navy hosts Holy Cross at 3:00 PM. Navy will look to extract some revenge on the Crusaders after dropping an 11-10 game in Worcester last season.

Navy will then battle Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. on April 7 in a rematch of the 2011 conference title game. After falling to Colgate in the first three meetings of the series, Navy has won four straight, including the Patriot League semifinals in 2010 and the league title game in 2011.

The team's final home game of the regular season will be played under the lights at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium against American on Friday, April 13 at 7:00 PM. Navy is 4-0 against American in regular season games, but owns a win margin of just five goals over the four victories.

Navy will conclude the regular season at Lehigh on April 21 at 1:00 PM. Navy defeated Lehigh in the Patriot League semifinals in 2011, one week after the Mountain Hawks bested Navy in the regular season finale.

The four-team Patriot League Tournament will be hosted by the regular season champion April 26-28. Navy has made the postseason tournament in each of the past four years, but will be looking to host for the first time in 2012.
