Two LI-Area Junior Girls Make D1 Commitments

Two Long Island-area juniors have made verbal commitments to Division I colleges. Locust Valley defender Taylor Bleistein is headed to Penn State University, while Mount Sinai midfielder Caroline Fitzgerald plans to attend the University of Florida.

Taylor Bleistein

High School: Locust Valley High School
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: Defense/Midfield
College Choice: Penn State
Club Affiliation: Long Island Yellow Jackets 2013 Blue

Major lacrosse honors: All County Honorable Mention, U-15 National Team,U-15 Champion, All-Conference

Academic honors: National Junior Honors Society, Italian Honor society

What will you major in/study? Political science or international affairs

Why did you choose PSU? "Penn State has everything football, Joe Pa, the team is so nice, the coaches are great and have great chemistry with the players and I can tell that we will be very good when my year comes in."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "Locust Valley made it to the County's last year, but we lost. I think our goal this year is to win County and push ourselves all the way to states. We might be a small school but we have a lot of talent and fight in us."

Caroline Fitzgerald

Graduation Year: 2013
Position: Midfield
College Choice: University Of Florida
Club Affiliation: Long Island Yellow Jackets

Major lacrosse honors: 2011 High School All American, 2011 All-County, 2x All-County Honorable Mention (2009,2010). Member of the Long Island Under Armour Underclassman Team (2010,2011). Long Island Metro School Girls team 1 (2011). Long Island Metro School Girls team 3 (2010). Long Island Empire State Team (2010). Suffolk County Class "C" Champions, Long Island Class "C" Champions, NYS Class "C" finalists (2011).

Academic honors: Principal's List (2010,2011). Scholar Athlete (2010,2011). Member of the Student Athlete Leadership Program.

What will you major in/study? Undecided

Why did you choose the University of Florida? "I chose the University of Florida, because it had everything I was looking for in a school. It's a great school academically, and the lacrosse program is awesome. I also loved the coaching staff, and felt that they would help me to reach my potential."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "After making it to the Class 'C' state championship and losing this past year, our goal is to make it back in 2012 and win it."
