More LI, Philly Juniors Make Verbal Commitments

Three Long Island-area and three Philadelphia-area juniors have made verbal commitments to play for Division I lacrosse programs. St. Anthony's midfielder Brandon Cortazar plans to attend Fairfield University. Tyler Andreassi, a LSM/defender for Sachem North, is headed to the University of Massachusetts, and Huntington attacker Hannah Burnett has selected the University of Florida.

Malvern Prep defenseman Jared Horoski and Matt Olbrich, a senior face-off specialist/midfielder for Moorestown (N.J.), plan to play next year for the University of Delaware. St. Augustine Prep's (N.J.) defenseman Nate Gorman is bound for Villanova University.

Brandon Cortazar

High School: St. Anthony's High School
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: Midfield
College Choice: Fairfield
Club Affiliation: Long Island Express

Major lacrosse honors: 17 goals 16 assists w/ Saint Anthony's (2011). 2x catholic league champs (2010,2011). Tristate, Jake Reed's Nike Bluechip, Brine Shootout 1 w/Long Island express.

What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose Fairfield? "The campus is absolutely beautiful, the coaches are great and it's only a ferry ride away from home."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "To win another Catholic League Championship."

Tyler Andreassi

High School: Sachem North
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: LSM/defense
College Choice: University of Massachusetts

Major lacrosse honors: Nike Blue Chip Camp for rising sophomores and juniors, Top 20 Suffolk team for rising sophomores and rising juniors.

What will you major in/study? Civil Mechanical Engineering

Why did you choose UMass? "UMass is a large D1 school. It has my major and I truly felt welcome by Coach (Greg) Canell and his staff. The team made me feel welcome as well, and having my brother there made it even better. It was amazing playing with him my sophomore and junior year for football and lax and I will be playing with him side by side again come 2013 when I'm up at UMass."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "Our team outlook for this year is to take it one game at a time and just to work hard to be the best that we can be."

Hannah Burnett

High School: Huntington High School
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: attack and occasionally midfield
College Choice: The University of Florida.
Club Affiliation: Long Island Yellow Jacket 2013 Blue team.

Major lacrosse honors: Received the All-County award in tenth grade, and made Metro Two for National School Girls summer 2011.

Academic honors: "I currently have a 94 GPA and have made the high honor roll twice in high school and have been on the honor roll every other quarter. Also in high school I received a scholar athlete award in ninth and tenth grade. I also received the St. Johns Science and Mathematics award."

Major service project: "I will be participating in a trip to New Orleans to help with the damage they are still dealing with regarding Hurricane Katrina. I am a member of Habitat for Humanity and this is one of the many places we go to help with devastation from natural disasters."
