Hartford Welcomes 10 Newcomers for 2012

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. University of Hartford head coach Peter Lawrence and his coaching staff welcomed 10 newcomers to the Hawks' roster for the upcoming 2012 season, a class that is headlined by nine high school standouts and a two-time NCAAademic All-American honoree.

The Hawks' Class of 2015, which consists of three attackmen, four midfielders, one long stick midfielder, one defenseman and a goalie, will join 30 returning student-athletes as the squad looks to repeat as America East Tournament champions in 2012.

The Hawks are coming off their most successful season in program history after finishing the campaign with an 11-7 overall record and capturing the program's first-ever America East Tournament championship while earning its first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in 2011.

Matt Carroll East Northport, N.Y. Attack
Carroll, a native of East Northport, N.Y., attended Northport High School where he was a four-year member of the Tigers' attack unit. A team captain in 2011, Carroll was named to Suffolk's All-County squad and was tabbed to the Division I Team after tallying 66 points (30 goals, 36 assists) while leading his team to the Suffolk County Class A quarterfinals. Additionally, Carroll etched his name into Northport High School's record book when he finished his career as the 12th best scorer in school history, accumulating 73 goals and 64 assists for 127 career points. Carroll also spent five seasons with the Tigers' wrestling squad. Carroll is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Garrett Dollard Albany, N.Y. Midfield
Dollard comes to Hartford by way of Onondaga Community College where he played two seasons of lacrosse and led the Lazers to two-straight National Junior College Athletic Association Championships, two consecutive Region 3 Championships as well a pair of Mid-State Athletic Conference titles in the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. More impressively, Dollard, a midfielder, earned a spot on the NJSCAA Academic All-American list twice during his career at Onondaga. During his two-year tenure, he combined for 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 career points. Prior to his stint at Onondaga, Dollard was a product of Colonie High School where he finished his four-year career as the program's most prolific scorer. A first-team Suburban Council All-Star as a senior in 2009, he fired in 54 goals and assisted on 37 others to emerge as the program's leading scorer with 173 goals and 131 assists. A three-year team captain, Dollard helped lead the Garnet Raiders to their second consecutive Gold Division title in the Suburban Council as a senior and was a two-time The Record All-Area lacrosse team selection during his career. Dollard is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.

James Loughlin Hanover, Mass. Midfield
Loughlin played lacrosse at Milton Academy before attending Hanover High School for one season. During his tenure at Milton Academy, the 5-11, 180 pound midfielder led the squad in scoring in 2009 and was named a Prep School League All-Star. The Hanover, Mass. native was also voted to the All-ISL First team that season. Most impressively, Loughlin was tabbed a New England Under Armour All-Star in 2009. At Hanover, he garnered Patriot League All-Star accolades and was also a member of the Indians' football team. Loughlin is enrolled in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions.

Brian Monks Bellmore, N.Y. Defense
Monks, a decorated two sport athlete from Mepham High School, is a 6-0, 190-pound defender out of Bellmore, N.Y. A two-time B1 All-Conference honoree as both a sophomore and junior, Monks was deemed the Pirates' most valuable player at the conclusion of his senior season in 2011. In addition to lacrosse, Monks was also a five-year member of the wrestling team at Mepham where he racked up all-conference accolades as a freshman in 2008 and a junior in 2010. Monks is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.
