More L.I. Juniors Make Verbal Commitments

Chaminade face-off specialist/midfielder Kris Clarke has committed to play lacrosse at Hofstra. Teammate and goalie Danny Fowler has committed verbally to Duke. Another goalie, Smithtown East's Brian Balkam, hopes to head to the University of North Carolina. Harborfields midfielder Christina Turner has made a verbal commitment to play at Ohio State. Alex Darcey, a Rocky Point midfielder, is headed for Stony Brook.

Kris Clarke

High School: Chaminade
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: F/O, Midfield
College Choice: Hofstra

Major lacrosse honors: Brine Shootout Session I, Tri-State, and USCLA Club Championship
Academic honors: National Honor Society
What will you major in/study? Business or Accounting

Why did you choose Hofstra? "I chose Hofstra because I felt the academics and the lacrosse program were the perfect fit for me. After meeting Coach (Seth) Tierney and his coaching staff I knew that Hofstra was the right decision. I always went to Hofstra lacrosse games when I was younger and now my whole family can come see me play at Hofstra."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "I think my team will be very successful this year. We have a lot of returning players from last year and a new influx of talent coming from the JV."

Danny Fowler

Position: Goalie
College Choice: Duke

Major lacrosse honors: U-15 US lacrosse national champion with FCA lacrosse club, Warrior 40 all star team
Academic honors: Member of National Honor Society, Honor Roll with a 95 average

What will you major in/study? "I either want to go into the field of business and economics or medicine."

Why did you choose school? "I chose Duke because of the great academics as well as the level of competition there lacrosse program plays at. Year in and year out they play the best teams in the country and are competing for a national championship. I also loved the coaching staff and I can't wait to play for coach (John) Danowski."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "I think my team has a great shot to make a run for another CHSAA championship next year. St. Anthony's is always strong so we should have some good games with them. I look forward to playing with three other future Blue Devils as well. Tommy Zenker, Brian Dunne, and Greg Rhodes will be joining me at Duke as well."

Major lacrosse honors: Nassau vs. Suffolk Rising Sophomore/Junior games; Top 205 all star game; Hotbeds all star game; 2011 Suffolk County Class A All League; Inside Lacrosse top 50 rising junior.

Academic honors: 2010/2011 New York State Student Athlete; DECA regionals finalist; National Junior Honor Society.
What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose UNC? "UNC is one of the best academic and athletic establishments in the country. With the best facilities, the best coaches, and a chance to win a national championship year after year, UNC was an easy choice in the end."
