Three More L.I. Juniors Make College Choices

Three more juniors from Long Island-area high schools have made verbal commitments to Division I lacrosse programs. William Floyd midfielder/attack Courtney Murphy has decided on Stony Brook; Andrew Keith, a Syosset midfielder, hopes to attend Cornell; and Smithtown East defender Peter Triolo is bound for Penn State.

Courtney Murphy

High school: William Floyd
Graduation year: 2013
Position: Midfield/Attack
College choice: Stony Brook
Club affiliation: Long Island Yellow Jackets
Major lacrosse honors: Under Armour Lacrosse Underclassmen All American, All County in 2011, All Division in 2010, All Tournament in 2010 and 2011.

Why did you choose Stony Brook? "I chose Stony Brook because Coach (Joe) Spallina's drive to win really attracted me there. Stony Brook has great academics. All the coaches were really nice and I felt at home there."

Outlook for your high school team? "We want to win. We lost a few key players, but we are ready to make changes and get the season started."

Andrew Keith

Graduation Year: 2013
Position: Midfield
College Choice: Cornell
Club Affiliation: Syosset
Major lacrosse honors: Maverik Showtime All-Star, team Nassau for Long Island Showcase
Academic honors: National Honor Society

What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose Cornell? The fine academics, the terrific lacrosse program and lacrosse facilities. The coaching staff and the system that they play was also a factor in my decision.

Other info: Brother Thomas Keith, a junior, is Cornell's regular long stick midfielder.

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "We plan on winning a Nassau County championship."

Graduation year: 2013
Position: Defenseman
College Choice: Penn State University

Academic Honors: New York State Scholar Athlete 2010 & 2011; National Junior Honor Society; Spanish Honor Society; Honor Roll 2010/2011

What will you major in/study? "I'm thinking about pursuing a career in either engineering or medicine."

Why did you choose this Penn State? "I was totally impressed with the coaching staff and the facilities. The coaches are building an outstanding program that I look forward to being a part of and the campus is awesome."

What is your high school team's outlook for next year? "I'm excited about our upcoming season. We just learned that we are the # 6 seed for our division in Suffolk County, and although we are a very young varsity team, we are strong and eager to win."
