Georgetown Lacrosse Releases 2012 Schedule

WASHINGTON Georgetown University released its 2012 schedule on Wednesday. The team will face seven teams that finished 2011 ranked in the top 20 nationally as well as six NCAA Tournament qualifiers. The Hoyas will have a good mix of nationally-recognized opponents as well as conference foes as the coaching staff has once again put together a challenging slate.

Georgetown will start off 2012 hosting the University of Delaware Blue Hens at Multi-Sport Field on Feb. 29. Delaware is new to the Hoyas' schedule this season and finished fourth in the Colonial Athletic Conference a year ago.

The Hoyas will move quickly into Big East Conference play traveling to Villanova University on Mar. 3 for a 1:00 p.m., matchup with the Wildcats.

The Blue & Gray will have its toughest stretch of the schedule facing five NCAA Tournament teams in six games with two on the road. GU will host Florida on Mar. 7. The Gators advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago and finished the season ranked No. 4 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The Hoyas will them travel to North Carolina to take on the Duke University Blue Devils who made it to the NCAA Final Four in 2011 and finished the year ranked No. 5.

Local-rival Johns Hopkins University will come to Multi-Sport Field on Mar. 14 for a game under the lights followed by the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Mar. 17 in a Saturday matinee. Hopkins was 9-8 last season and UNC was an NCAA Final Four qualifier which was ranked No. 3 in the final poll

A trip to the University of Pennsylvania is scheduled for Mar. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Quakers went to the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 9.

March 24 marks Georgetown's second Big East Conference contest of the season and the start of a three-game home stand. GU will host Loyola University on Mar. 24. The Greyhounds were No. 6 in the final IWLCA poll and an NCAA Tournament team. American University will make the short trip to the Hilltop on Mar. 27 and the University of Connecticut Huskies will be at Multi-Sport Field on Mar. 30.

The home stand will be followed by a three-game conference road trip with contests at the University of Cincinnati (Apr. 5), the University of Louisville (Apr. 7) and Syracuse University (Apr. 14). The Orange finished the season ranked No. 17 in the final poll.

The University of Notre Dame will come to Multi-Sport Field on Apr. 21 before the Hoyas travel to the nearby University of Maryland to take on the NCAA runners up from 2011 in the Terps.

The Hoyas will host Rutgers University on Senior Day at Multi-Sport Field on Apr. 28 to round out the season and Big East Conference play.

The Big East Tournament will be held in Syracuse, N.Y., with the semifinals on May 3 and the championship on May 5. The Blue & Gray finished the 2011 season ranked No. 18 in the nation and lost just seven seniors to graduation.
