Marist Lacrosse Announces 2012 Schedule

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Marist Athletics Department released the 2012 women's lacrosse schedule on Monday afternoon. Coming off of a 6-10 season, the Red Foxes will face a challenging 16 game schedule that includes 10 out of conference matchups and nine road games.

Second-year head coach Jessica O'Brien and the Red Foxes are set to open their regular season with back-to-back road tests versus perennial Patriot League power Lehigh and the reigning Atlantic 10 Champion, UMass. Marist travels to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 18 and to Amherst on the following Saturday, Feb. 25.

The Red Foxes' home opener will be on Wednesday, Feb. 29 when they welcome the Leopards of Lafayette to Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in a 4:00 p.m. matchup. Marist collected its first win of 2011 at Lafayette in a dramatic 13-12 double overtime victory.

Marist then plays back-to-back games versus American East programs, Albany and Binghamton on Saturday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 7. The Great Danes are coming off of an 18-1 season, in which they made the NCAA Quarterfinals before falling to the eventual NCAA Champion Northwestern.

Taking advantage of the extended recess from school for Spring Break, the Red Foxes will head west for three games versus Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes. Their trip will begin with two games in Denver as the play Saint Mary's in a neutral site game on Sunday, March 11 and then face off with the home team Denver Pioneers on Tuesday, March 13.

Marist completes the trip with a Friday afternoon contest in Eugene, Oregon versus the Oregon Ducks. The two programs will renew a playing relationship that begin in Oregon's first year of varsity existence in 2005 and continued with a meeting the following season. In both of those contests, O'Brien and her assistant coach Jana Bradley faced off as opponents with each earning a victory, O'Brien and Marist in 2005 and Bradley and Oregon in 2006.

After eight days off, the Red Foxes will close out their non-conference schedule with an away game versus Stony Brook on Saturday, March 24 and a home game versus Yale on Wednesday, March 28.

O'Brien sees these contests as important lead-ins to the Red Foxes' six game MAAC slate, "the last two games before our MAAC play will be a great way to prepare for the rest of the season. Last year's games against Stony Brook and Yale were very close and we're looking forward to meeting them again in late March. These games will give us a great opportunity to finalize some game plans before we face our MAAC competitors."

MAAC play opens for Marist with a home meeting versus Siena on Saturday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. Four days later on Wednesday, Apr. 4, the team will travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face off with Manhattan in a 7:00 p.m. matchup.

The following week begins the part of conference schedule where the Red Foxes will play on consecutive Wednesdays and Saturdays. Starting on Wednesday, Apr. 11, Marist will travel to play Iona and complete the weekend with a home meeting with the 2011 MAAC Tournament Champion Canisius on Saturday, Apr. 14.

The Red Foxes' final regular season home game will be on Wednesday, Apr. 18 as they welcome the 2011 MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield to Poughkeepsie for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.

The squad will complete their regular season on Saturday, Apr. 21 with a trip out to western New York as they close with a Saturday afternoon meeting versus Niagara. In their last game versus the Purple Eagles in 2011, Marist posted a season-high 19 goals.
