Saint Joseph (Ct.) Names Herrera Head Coach

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. Former assistant coach Jim Herrera has been hired as the new head lacrosse coach at Saint Joseph College.

Herrera began his coaching career eight years ago working his way throughout the youth level in Avon and also served for four years on the program's Board of Directors. He was the JV coach at the Ethel Walker School for two years before coming to Saint Joseph in 2011 as the assistant coach.

"We're very excited to have Jim as the Head Coach," Saint Joseph College Athletic Director Bill Cardarelli said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge to the position and I know our players are just as excited to have Jim as their coach."

Nationally, Herrera is a member of the U.S. Lacrosse Strategic Planning Committee and is currently helping to develop a five-year strategic plan for the national governing body of lacrosse. He is also a certified youth official and belongs to various coaching associations. He has several coaching certifications including: P.C.A., C.I.A.C., and U.S. Lacrosse L1 (Quinnipiac Univ.), L2 (Bryant Univ.), and is on schedule to complete his L3 (Villanova Univ.) in March of 2012.

Coach Herrera emphasizes a strong defense game strategy along with a concentration on ball control on offense.

Jim resides in Avon with his wife Irene and daughter Maureen.
